Mikao Usui is recognised as the person who rediscovered Reiki as we know it today. A healing system from the Japanese tradition, he called it Reiki, pronounced "Ray" "Kei" and means Universal life giving energy.
Reiki can be applied safely across all age groups and can be used alongside conventional and complimentary treatments. It is supportive in the management of physical ailments, stress, emotional healing and can assist people in their own personal transformation. The therapist is merely a channel for this energy and a treatment follows a sequence of hand positions. the client takes the Reiki energy into the body which innately goes to were it is needed. Some people do not experience anything during a Reiki treatment while others may experience a sensation of heat or tingling. It is not necessary to experience anything for it to be beneficial.
Four sessions may be advised to complete the initial energy balancing if a physical or emotional imbalance present, however, this is optional and one session can be of benefit. Each of us has the choice in how our own healing path unfolds.
It is also possible to be opened as a channel for the Reiki energy through the assistance of a Reiki Teacher or Master. There are three levels or degrees to becoming a Reiki Master in the Traditional Reiki learning. Each level is complete in itself and all three levels do not have to be taken.

Level one opens you up to the Reiki energy and enables self treatment and treatment of friends and family.

Level two introduces distant healing and gives you the tools to work on the general public should you wish to do so . Insurance cover is necessary to practise professionally.

Level three is the Master level enabling you to teach the Reiki system to others.
